Hawker Paradise

Penang is called ”Hawker Paradise” for many reasons. Penangites find it easier and cheaper to eat out at any time of the day and night. Almost in every street corner there are hawker food, so many hawker centre and food places have popped up in these recent years. Just a few that´s worth mentioning:

New Lane hawker street

New Lane hawker street situated off Macalister Road, best time to go there is in the evening when the street is fill with hawker food stalls.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Chowrasta MarketChowrasta Market Area, from 7.30am to 2.00pm, have about 5 coffee shops with lots of hawker food stalls around and a wet market where the locals visit.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Red Garden Hawker Centre Red Garden Hawker Centre at 20 Leith Street in the evening a mix of local and tourist hang out there for food and beers. They even have Chinese live music.

 

Pulau Tikus night hawker My own favourite, Pulau Tikus Market area in the morning and evening, also a local favourite. In the morning from 7.30am to about 2.00pm, evening from 6.00pm to about 11.30. Most Penangites go there for their favourite Char Koi Teow and Lok Lok.

 

 

 

 

 

Tanjung Bunga hawker centerThe Hawker Centre in Tanjung Bunga beside Chinese Swimming Club, in the evening after 6.00pm, check out the Ikan Pangang ( best sambal pangang squid I have eaten), also check out the Char Koi Teow there.

 

 

 

 

 

Gurney Drive hawker centerGurney Drive Hawker Centre, check out the cuttle fish with kangkong and the persembur. Many local complained that this hawker charge a cut throat price but coming from Stockholm I still consider it dirt cheap.

 

 

 

Sri Weld hawker

Sri Weld Hawker Centre cater for office workers around Lebuh Pantai area, good beef koay teow shop and good nasi lemak Melayu.
